
Chenoweth said on social media that the televised musical was some of the most fun she ever had. The all-star cast includes Oklahoma native Kristin Chenoweth, Harvey Fierstein, Ariana Grande, Derek Hough, Jennifer Hudson and Martin Short. The three-hour live event was directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon and features choreography from Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell. "Hairspray Live!" tells the inspiring story of Tracy Turnblad (newcomer Maddie Baillio), a plump teen in 1962 Baltimore who wins a spot on a local TV dance program and ignites a campaign to integrate the show. She also showed off her pigtail for the play on that day.The YouTube channel The Shows Must Go On! is streaming this weekend NBC's star-studded 2016 production of "Hairspray Live!"

Ariana posted a snippet of her singing an original song from Hairspray, "Run and Tell That". On August 9, 2016, Ariana posted on Snapchat that she went on a Hairspray Live!-related work.Ariana was crying after Hairspray Live had finished and she even went back on set to say goodbye to Hairspray Live.


Tracy’s mother is the indomitable Edna, and she eventually encourages Tracy on her campaign to integrate the all-white "Corny Collins Show". When against all odds Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters, including the resident dreamboat, Link the ambitious mean girl, Amber an African-American boy she meets in detention, Seaweed and his mother, Motormouth Maybelle, the owner of a local record store.
